| humming along in the artroom and other random stuff |
[Nov. 10th, 2009|07:53 pm] |
today in 4th period it was TOTAL silence. I was working on a surrealism collage and all of my other students were so busy on their own projects, not needing my help and working away, it was bliss!
All of the 8th graders were away on a field trip (over 200 kids out of the building) also made the hallways much nicer.
I just love it when all my kids are immersed in their work.
I got a great compliment from the PTA, turning in my student work for the annual contest. They thought the work was excellent. I really hope some of them win and go on to state.
There will be an article in the upcoming district newsletter about my recent state award. This newsletter goes out to the entire city of everett to inform the tax payers what they are getting for thier tax dollars and to parents so they know what is going on in the schools. So that will be cool.
Tomorrow is a school holiday, Veteran's Day. I plan to make some art. I got my sewing machine back from the shop. If I can just keep myself off the dumb facebook games.
My brother did another Ironman triathlon this weekend in Las Vegas. He did very well except for having a flat tire that caused him an hour of troubles. He still beat his time from last time.
My butt totally hurts from my workout yesterday. I NEED to get better with my food or my weight is going to start going back up again.
hope everyone is doing good!
ANd happy b-day Mei :) |

| Friend's fish issues |
[Nov. 10th, 2009|07:37 pm] |
My friend has a fancy goldfish, a redcap oranda, that has always had buoyancy problems and now has a few other things. Her mother is taking care of the fish right now, so all of our information on it is second-hand, and her mother isn't a fish person, but here's what's going on: -constant buoyancy issues -intermittent red streaks on her belly, but disappeared and didn't come back after a water change -needs wen trimming? Neither of us know how to do this. -may need someone to manually, with a needle, empty her swim bladder of air? -floats/swims upside-down a lot and sinks to the bottom -"she just swims like a retard" We know that the water quality there is pretty awful, but not what's in the water. The person taking care of her is feeding her peas, but the fish may not be able to see pellets or flakes because of her wen. The fish is down south quite a ways, physically speaking, because my friend came up here for college and hasn't had a chance to get a bigger tank to put the fish in (currently in a 10-gallon tank, and she's about two inches). Is it possible that her swimming issues are being caused by her massive wen?

Thissss is my new doll pattern. It needs some tweaking, still, so I'll be selling this lady at a lower price than she'd go for normally. (She's not listed yet, but she will be in the next few hours.) The pattern is quite a bit more painstaking than the simpler one, but I love the results. I'm not at ALL happy with how her mouth turned out (not the best at embroidery, yet, but I'm workin' on it), but I love her hair, I love the new pattern (though it needs a bit of tweaking), and I'm really proud of her dress and... shoe... I have to make her a second one. xD
Speaking of doll dresses... anyone know how to keep the seams from being all crazy chunky? =/ I usually knit their dresses, so sewing them is a little new to me.

***public post***

This is for a local single mom with no health insurance fighting what may be a losing battle with cancer. Her daughter is trying to go to school and help pay the bills since the mom can't work. They still need donations for the silent auction. It doesn't have to be a big gift since they will want items that go for various price points to get the maximum donation amount. I sent 2 small baskets of Halloween goodies. Unused gift cards is something else I like to donate to this kind of fundraiser. Starbucks, Amazon.com, and others you often get as a thank you gift or for free from credit card points. Even if someone only bids $10 on a $25 gift card its $10 more to a good cause. If you are local please share this event information. Thank you. Update: Cash donations can be sent via Paypal to flowersoffilth@yahoo.com Please make sure to mark in the subject line the donation is for Anabel You can use the same e-mail to contact the organizer for donations of goods. |

PHOTO BY TRACY BREWER on yesterday's home page of my ISP Wiktel.com
It's a quiet sunny morning in the northwoods. I am feeling very good today! :-) I love the picture of the small gray bird.
I had a quiet relaxing day yesterday. I finished with work stuff by noon and spent the rest of the day reading and finishing CEMETARY DANCE. Tom has only one book left in the dozen the Lincoln and Childs books that our Fargo kids lent us. I have 4 left to read. They are such good books! But man do I hate it when they kill off a favorite character. I had a short nap before dinner last night. Dinner was early as Tom was going with me to the first of 16 weekly diabetes prevention class 6:30 to 8PM. I doubt they are going to give me much new information, but there is a weekly weigh in and recording of food intake and exercise that provides some accountability. That will be a good thing, and at $5 a class it's a better deal than Weight Watchers. I like that they allow you to bring a support person to the class at no extra charge. We got home in time to watch THE BIG BANG and CSI: MIAMI, the first of three parts of a "trilogy" that includes CSI: NEW YORK on Wed. and CSI on 'Thursday evening. I love Laurence Fishburn so am happy that he will be in all 3 episodes. I find the science of forensics fascinating! (Even though I have to look away when they show the gory stuff)
Today looks as if it will be another quiet day. My only appointment for the day called to cancel and reschedule today's after school meeting to another day. And since I'm all caught up on paperwork I now have the day free to spend as I wish. I'm going to dig into my stash of old cabinet photos to find some to alter. My friend Becky has a birthday this week and the plan is that some of us will go out for coffee on Saturday to celebrate the various November birthdays we have this month, mine included. I think that I will be giving altered cabinet photos and other small handmade items for gifts to family and few friends this year. Money is going to be tigher this year for holiday spending. It is my goal to open an Etsy shop in January. I want to make a doll for Ashlyn for this Christmas, and maybe sew her an outfit or two. I guess I'd better get started on some of those things! Especially those things I will need to get in the mail so they arrive in plenty of time.
Today's To Do List: 1. Alter cabinet photos 2. Work on the DOD dolls 3. Do the dishes Tom did them while I was dusting and vacuuming. :-) 4. Vacuum and dust the downstairs
5. Read 6. Phone calls to two therapists about kids we share as clients.
